THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) expressed support for initiatives to develop sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as the Southeast Asian region aims to decarbonize its aviation sector.
Speaking at the 26th Asean Energy Business Forum on Oct. 6, CAAP Director General Raul del Rosario emphasized the need for continued cross-border cooperation to establish the region as a sustainable fuel hub.
“Rest assured that the Philippine government is working to establish enabling policies, infrastructure and sustainable initiatives in coordination with our regional counterparts. Through the National Biofuels Board SAF Technical Working Group, we are engaging communities, industry stakeholders and development partners to ensure that our legal, institutional, and technical frameworks are robust and future-ready,” del Rosario said.
The forum brought together government leaders and representatives from the Department of Energy, Board of Investments–Resource-Based Industries Service, the Asean Center for Energy, Asean member states, private-sector partners, development organizations and other stakeholders involved in advancing SAF in the region.
According to CAAP, the International Civil Aviation Organization recognizes SAF as a critical pathway to reduce international aviation carbon dioxide emissions by up to 66 percent.
