THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) reported that total cargo throughput reached 308.5 million metric tons (MT) in 2025, marking a 6.6-percent increase from the previous year due to strong growth in domestic and foreign trade.

These results showed significant gains across both local and international sectors, reinforcing the vital role of maritime hubs in national development.

Domestic cargo grew by 8.84 percent, rising from 104.83 million MT in 2024 to 114.09 million MT in 2025. This surge was primarily fueled by increased shipments of construction materials, petroleum products, and industrial raw materials. Similarly, foreign cargo increased by 5.33 percent to reach 194.41 million MT, demonstrating the Philippines’ expanding role in global supply chains and high investor confidence in the nation’s trade capacity.

Operational efficiency saw a marked improvement throughout the year, as evidenced by the rise in vessel activity and vehicle movement. Container throughput surpassed 8 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), comprised of 5.55 million TEUs from foreign traffic and 2.99 million TEUs from domestic traffic. Ship calls totaled 664,817 in 2025, which is a significant climb from the 621,374 recorded in 2024, signaling robust trade demand and improved turnaround times at the docks.

Roll-on/roll-off traffic, a critical pillar for inter-island logistics, grew by 13.3 percent while handling 12.81 million vehicles. This growth facilitated the efficient movement of goods for farmers and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), providing direct support to local economies.

PPA General Manager Jay Santiago noted that these results reflect a commitment to a more efficient and interconnected port system that supports economic growth across the archipelago. Through these achievements, the PPA continues to advance the vision of “Bagong Pantalan sa Bagong Pilipinas” to ensure seamless connectivity and shared economic progress for all Filipinos.
