PH Embassy in Qatar: No Filipinos affected in gas facility blast

MANILA, Philippines — No Filipinos were killed or injured in the explosion at the Ras Laffan gas facility in Qatar, the Philippine Embassy in Doha said on Tuesday.

"According to Philippine Ambassador Mardomel Celo Melicor, there are no Filipinos involved [in the explosion],” Foreign Affairs spokesman Analyn Ratonel said.

Melicor has yet to reply to media query whether there are Filipino workers at Ras Laffan.

Initial reports said that at least 13 people were killed, 12 of them from India, and 66 others were wounded after the explosion at Qatar's largest gas facility.

"As of June 23, there are no nationals included in the list of confirmed fatalities and injuries," the embassy said. It added that it "continues to monitor the situation and coordinate with local authorities for relevant updates."

"Filipino nationals requiring assistance may reach out to the embassy," the embassy posted on Facebook.

Meanwhile, the embassy also conveyed its condolences and sympathies to those affected by the Ras Laffan incident on June 21.

"Our thoughts are with the families who are grieving the untimely loss of their loved ones, and we wish a swift and full recovery to those who were injured," the embassy said.
