PAKATAN Harapan should not depend on the internal troubles of rival parties as a shortcut to victory in the forthcoming state and general elections, said PKR Strategic Director, Mohd Radzmin Roslan.
Speaking to reporters at a media appreciation event in Klebang on Wednesday, Mohd Radzmin said that while divisions within opposing parties might influence public perception to some extent, genuine electoral success would ultimately hinge on the coalition’s own cohesion, organisational strength and service to the electorate.
“Divisions or problems within other parties may have a slight impact, but we cannot rely on that. The foundation of our strength lies in our work on the ground and unity within the party.
“So, we need to go down to the ground, listen to the grassroots, and understand the needs of the people. From there, we build confidence to secure votes,” he said.
He stressed that the immediate priority for the coalition was to strengthen unity among its component parties, streamline its election machinery, and ensure that seat negotiations at the highest leadership level are conducted in a mature and measured manner.
On campaign strategy, Mohd Radzmin, who also serves as Secretary of the Tangga Batu branch of PKR, said the coalition would focus on issues directly affecting voters, particularly the rising cost of living, employment opportunities, and community welfare.
He identified young voters, including those enfranchised under the Undi 18 initiative, as well as undecided voters, as key target groups in the run-up to both the Melaka state election and the next general election.
“Young voters, including those in the Undi 18 segment, are an important group. We need to engage them with a fresher approach and a clear message. Likewise, undecided voters assess us based on our performance and sincerity in our work,” he said.
The current five-year term of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly is due to conclude in December 2026, setting the stage for renewed political contest in the state. - February 18, 2026
