THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) opened its Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and Migrant Workers Resource Center (MWRC) in Muscat, Oman, on Tuesday.

In a statement on its website and Facebook on Thursday, the DMW said the opening of its MWO reaffirms the government’s commitment in strengthening protection and frontline services for overseas Filipino workers in the Middle Eastern country.

Tuesday’s ceremony was led by Philippine Ambassador to Oman Noralyn Jubaira Baja, alongside Undersecretary Jainal Rasul Jr., Assistant Secretary Violeta Illescas, DMW officials, Philippine embassy staff, and Filipino community representatives.

“The newly established facility will serve as the main hub for providing essential services to OFWs, including welfare assistance, contract verification, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Assistance-to-Nationals support, and temporary shelter through the MWRC,” the DMW said. “The expanded office is designed to ensure more accessible, efficient, and responsive support for Filipino workers across various sectors in Oman.”

The agency said the larger MWO “marks a significant milestone in strengthening the Philippine government’s on-site ability to support approximately 45,000 OFWs in the Sultanate.”

“The DMW will continue to work closely with the Philippine Embassy, Omani authorities, and Filipino community partners in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to further enhance the welfare and protection of Filipino migrant workers,” it said.
