Pakatan Harapan election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari says PH is preparing its machinery for all possibilities ahead of the Melaka state election.

SEPANG: Pakatan Harapan (PH) is preparing its election machinery for various scenarios in the upcoming Melaka state election, including the possibility of contesting without an alliance with other parties.

PH election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said no formal talks had yet been held between PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) on cooperation for the Melaka polls.

“PH will prepare for various situations. This means considering whether the situation will be similar to the Johor or Negeri Sembilan state elections, or whether it will be different,” he told reporters after the vacant possession (VP) handover ceremony for NCT Smart Industrial Park (NSIP) here today.

PH contested the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections independently.

Amirudin, who is also PKR vice-president, said PH would hold internal discussions within the next day or two to determine specific steps for the Melaka polls.

He said negotiations on seat allocations among component parties could traditionally continue until nomination day, but PH was prepared to act earlier if necessary.

On Aug 25, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PH chairman, said Amirudin had been given the mandate to work out the details of cooperation between PH and BN, including seat allocations, for the upcoming Melaka state election.

Melaka has 28 state seats. In the 15th Melaka state election, BN formed the state government after winning 21 seats, while PH secured five and Perikatan Nasional two.

The current Melaka state government’s mandate expires on Dec 31.
