Pakatan Harapan's (PH) representative Pang Sock Tao is currently leading in the Kuala Kubu Baru state by-elections, based on the unofficial count as of 8:00 PM.

According to the latest figures released by Pang's party, the Democratic Action Party (DAP), she has secured over 11,510 votes, putting her ahead of her closest rival, Perikatan Nasional's (PN) Khairul Azhari Saut, who has garnered over 8,000 votes.

Meanwhile, the remaining two candidates have each received just over 100 votes. With nearly 20,000 votes tallied so far, this represents approximately half of the total 40,413 eligible voters in the constituency.

Polling stations opened at 8:00 AM and closed at 6:00 PM, with all 18 centers shutting their doors punctually.

Out of the 17 polling stations closed at 6:00 PM, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Bukit Fraser was an exception, closing at 2:00 PM after catering to just 40 voters. Subsequently, all ballot boxes from the 74 voting streams were transported to the Dewan Serbaguna and Kompleks Sukan Daerah Hulu Selangor for the vote tallying process.

Official results are anticipated to be announced as early as 9:00 PM, providing clarity on the outcome of the by-election.

A total of 39,269 voters were eligible to participate in today's voting, following the early voting held on Tuesday, where 97% of police and military personnel, along with their spouses, cast their ballots at two polling centers.

The Election Commission (EC) has indicated that the complete results are expected to be released by 9:00 PM tonight.

Despite concerns over a lower voter turnout, which stood at 55.79% as of 4:00 PM, analysts had earlier predicted a victory for Pang, albeit with a reduced majority compared to the late assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong's previous win.

The by-election was necessitated by the unfortunate passing of Lee Kee Hiong in March, who had served as the assemblyman for three terms. In the preceding state election in August last year, Lee secured victory with a majority of 4,119 votes.

Today's four-cornered contest featured Pang and Khairul Azhari Saut, alongside Hafizah Zainuddin from Parti Rakyat Malaysia and Independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

As the vote counting continues, all eyes are on the final results, which will determine the political landscape of Kuala Kubu Baru in the aftermath of Lee Kee Hiong's passing.
