Pakatan Harapan will strengthen its election machinery after Johor polls, focusing on Negeri Sembilan’s state election preparations

JOHOR BAHRU: Pakatan Harapan (PH) will strengthen its strategy and election machinery following the outcome of the Johor state election as it prepares for the Negeri Sembilan state polls.

PH Presidential Council member Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the coalition would conduct a comprehensive review of the factors that influenced the Johor election results, including voting pattern shifts and the level of support among young voters.

The Selangor Menteri Besar, who is also PKR Election Co-director, said it was still too early to draw conclusions from the election results as the outcomes in several seats were still pending.

“We have to go back to each polling stream to make sure that we got real numbers. Tonight is still early, and we have a few seats not confirmed yet. I think give us one week, but we have to prepare for Negeri Sembilan definitely,” he said at a press conference at the PH Operations Centre here tonight.

Also present were Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, Amanah vice-president Datuk Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli and Amanah Communications director Khalid Abdul Samad.

Barisan Nasional (BN) secured a simple majority after winning 29 of the 56 state seats contested in the 16th Johor State Election as of 10.32 pm.

Election Commission chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said the result gave BN a majority of more than 50 per cent of the seats contested.

Commenting on preparations for the Negeri Sembilan state election, Amirudin said PH was confident of retaining the state administration based on the performance of the state government under Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

“Our expectation is to retain the state administration under PH. We have a good track record in Negeri Sembilan and we are confident Datuk Seri Aminuddin will continue to lead and sustain our achievements there,” he said.

He said discussions on candidate selection for the Negeri Sembilan election would be held tomorrow to refine the coalition’s strategy and ensure its candidates met the expectations of local voters before the full list of PH candidates is officially announced on July 14.

Meanwhile, Amirudin assured that political developments at the state level would not affect the stability of the Federal Government, citing the commitment of all component parties to maintain the administration until the end of its term.

“I think all parties at the federal level have already made a commitment to ensure the Federal Government remains intact and continues to govern until the end of its term, until the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) dissolves Parliament. That is also BN’s commitment,” he said.
