PH unemployment rate climbs to 6%

MANILA, Philippines — The number of unemployed Filipinos surged in July, the Philippine Statistics Authority said on Tuesday.

Data showed that unemployment rose to 6.0 percent from 4.9 percent in June. It is also higher than the 5.3 percent recorded a year earlier.

About 3.14 million jobless Filipinos were recorded in July, higher than the number of unemployed individuals in July last year at 2.59 million.

Underemployment, meanwhile, recorded an uptick of 12.9 percent from 12.1 percent a month earlier. It is lower than the 14.8 percent in July 2025.

Employment declined to 94.0 percent from 95.1 percent a month earlier.

Labor force participation in July was recorded at 63.6 percent, lower than the 65.1 percent in June but higher than the 60.7 percent in July 2025.
