
MANILA, Philippines --The number of unemployed Filipinos edged up in May, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Wednesday.
Data showed that unemployment rose to 4.8 percent from April’s 4.7 percent. It is also higher than the 3.9 percent recorded a year earlier.
Underemployment, meanwhile, dropped to 12.2 percent from 15.2 percent in April and 13.1 percent in May 2025.
Employment slightly declined to 95.2 percent from the 95.3 percent and 96.1 a month and year earlier.
Labor force participation in May was recorded at 63.8 percent, higher than the 62.7 percent in April and 65.8 percent in May 2025.
