Intensifying its efforts to maintain cleanliness and improve urban sanitation, the Municipal Corporation, Phagwara, launched a special enforcement drive against individuals found dumping garbage in open in the city. During the campaign, the authorities issued 11 challans to violators for breaching sanitation regulations and warned them against repeating such practices in the future.
The action was carried out under the directions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Shikha Bhagat as part of the corporation’s ongoing initiative to promote a cleaner and healthier urban environment. Officials said the drive targeted areas where residents were found disposing of waste on roadsides, public places and plots, contributing to unhygienic conditions and environmental concerns.
Sanitary Inspectors Namdev and Hitesh Sharma of the Municipal Corporation’s Health Branch said sustained efforts are being made to keep the city clean. They emphasised that strict action is being taken against those violating sanitation norms and that similar enforcement drives will continue in the coming days.
Bhagat reiterated that maintaining a clean and beautiful Phagwara is a shared responsibility of both the civic administration and residents. She stated that while the Municipal Corporation is making every possible effort to strengthen cleanliness measures, active public participation remains crucial for the success of the campaign.
She appealed to residents to segregate wet and dry waste at the household level and hand over garbage only to the authorised municipal waste collection staff. The Commissioner further warned that stringent action would continue against individuals found violating cleanliness regulations.
