Pharma branches fined over illegal sales

Kota Kinabalu: Two branches of pharmacy shop belonged to a company, were fined RM1,500 each  for selling unregistered products.

Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan handed the sentences to each of the branches belonged to ALPRO Alliance (Sabah) Sdn. Bhd after its branches’ directors pleaded guilty to the charges.

For the first branch, the company was found to have sold an unregistered product which was one box of Triticum Aestivum Wheatgrass (30 sachets) 3g on July 26, 2023, at 11am in Taman Che Mei Shophouse, Jalan Penampang.

For the second branch, the company was found to have sold the same product on the same day at One Place Mall @ Putatan Square, Putatan.

The company had violated Regulation 7(1)(a) of the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984, which is an offence under Regulation 30(1) of the same regulations and punishable under Section 12(2) of the Sale of Drugs Act 1952.

The penalty provided for the offence is a fine not exceeding RM50,000, and for a second or subsequent offence, a fine not exceeding RM100,000, upon conviction.
