Pharmaniaga to commercialise M’sia’s first halal anticoagulant drug by 2024

PETALING JAYA – Pharmaniaga Bhd will commercialise the country’s first halal ovine (sheep and goat) anticoagulant (blood thinner) drug in Malaysia by 2024.

Group managing director Datuk Zulkarnain Md Eusope said the company’s partnership with China’s Suzhou Ronnsi Pharma Co Ltd (Ronnsi) will catalyse trade routes for its pharmaceutical products and research and development (R&D) for the anticoagulant drug.

“We have a collaboration for technology transfer with Ronnsi and we will produce raw material for the anticoagulant based on sheep and goats.

“Then, we will produce the anticoagulant drug itself,” he told a press conference after signing a memorandum of collaboration with Ronnsi here today.

Zulkarnain said anticoagulant usage in Malaysia increased drastically from 2021 to 2022, especially to prevent severe complications of Covid-19 during the pandemic. – Bernama, July 15, 2022
