“They operated on the children over the past week.”

On April 24, the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim officiated the 2nd MBP mission at Penang Hospital (HPP), along with deputy health minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Foundation chairman Sak Cheng Lum.
SSSH’s MBP was first launched on December 7, 2022, as a collaborative effort involving the health ministry, UTAR, SSSH and Penang General Hospital.
During the first mission, 18 babies and children successfully underwent corrective heart surgery.
PHEB deputy chairman Dr RA Lingeshwaran, who is also a senator said the MBP initiative also strengthened international collaboration in the field of medicine.
“India is renowned for its medical expertise as they are far ahead in this field and we will benefit from learning and exchanging knowledge with them.
“We just started the paediatric cardiothoracic subject in local universities and having doctors come to Malaysia from India is a very good opportunity for our doctors to gain further exposure,” he said.
