A Malaysian influencer with over 1 million Instagram followers has set social media abuzz after posting a cosy couple photo with fellow influencer Adeline Wong, seemingly announcing that they are in a relationship.

The post quickly went viral, drawing thousands of reactions and comments from fans and fellow influencers alike.

UPDATE:

Phei Yong’s manager responded to media inquiries, stating that the related photos were merely for movie promotion.

Soft launch or smart marketing?

In the photo, the girl is seen hugging Phei Yong closely from behind, with both of them smiling sweetly like a couple, leading many to believe they were making their relationship official.

However, not everyone was convinced.

Several netizens began speculating that the “relationship reveal” could actually be part of a promotional strategy for their movie I’m Not Gangster, which both influencers are involved in.

Many pointed out the timing of the post, noting that it coincided with the film’s promotional period.

Other influencers join in

Adding fuel to the fire, several influencers jumped into the comment section, seemingly backing the relationship announcement.

Some playfully claimed they had known about the couple for a long time but were unable to reveal the secret until now.

“Finally can say it… friends around me have been asking all along… feels like I can finally breathe 😝”

Others joked that they had almost leaked the news earlier through their Instagram Stories but had to quickly mute or delete their posts to avoid exposing the surprise.

“Congrats on finally being able to announce it after holding it in for so long!!! I also heard that Phei Yong only got to act in this movie because of this relationship! And Adeline’s ex-boyfriend, Songbill, allegedly fought with him over their relationship, almost causing the movie to fail to be released. That’s how the rumours spread!”

Their reactions left fans even more confused, was it genuine excitement, or were they in on the marketing stunt?

Netizens remain sceptical

Despite the supportive comments, many social media users remained unconvinced.

A number of netizens openly expressed their doubts, saying they believed the announcement was simply a creative way to promote I’m Not Gangster.

“I’m guessing you’re promoting your movie, but I have no proof 🤭”
