THE Philex National Mines and Allied Workers Union (Namawu) has voted to go on strike over an alleged deadlock in its negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with Philex Mining Corp.
Philex said Namawu had submitted the results of its strike vote referendum to the National Conciliation and Mediation Board office in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
The union voted to reject Philex Mining’s improved offer in connection with the CBA negotiations on Sept. 22, the company said.
“If the strike will proceed, it may lead to reduced operating capacity,” the mining firm said.
Philex said it remained focused on resolving the issue in coordination with the Labor department even as both sides continue negotiations over the terms of their new CBA.
Philex Mining operates the Padcal mine in Benguet, one of the country’s largest operating copper and gold mines.
Shares of Philex on Thursday slipped P0.38, or 3.30 percent, to close at P11.12 each.
