PMI Business Solutions Philippines Inc. (PMIBS), the local shared-services unit of Philip Morris International, has expanded its Makati office by 420 square meters to accommodate more technology and high-value operations.
The expansion will create more than 80 jobs, adding to the company’s 519 employees in Manila. PMIBS provides about 600 specialized services to PMI operations across 160 markets.
Its services cover finance, human resources, information technology, commercial operations, data analytics, supply chain, project management and fleet management.
PMIBS president Harry Tan Jr. said the expansion reflects the company’s shift toward more technology-driven and higher-value services.
Established in 2021, the Philippine unit initially focused on building its operational capabilities. Over the next five years, it plans to increase its use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and analytical tools while strengthening employees’ technical and problem-solving skills.
The company held an AI hackathon during the expansion launch to train participants in applying digital tools to operational challenges.
PMFTC Inc. president Zhanya Ivanov said PMIBS supports PMI’s Philippine operations through its digital capabilities, operational services and local workforce.
PMI vice president for global business services Edvinas Katilius said the company would continue investing in Filipino talent, digital capabilities and higher-value services.
The expanded facility was inaugurated as PMIBS marked its fifth year of operations in the country. Government and industry representatives attended the event, including officials from the House of Representatives, the Board of Investments, the Makati city government, and the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines.
