Kuala Lumpur’s coffee lovers have a new way to pull a fresh espresso without leaving the kitchen. Philips has launched the Baristina in Malaysia, a compact bean-to-cup machine that grinds, tamps and brews a cup in under 60 seconds. It is aimed squarely at people who want cafe-style coffee at home without the fuss of a full setup.
Real espresso, one swipe at a time
The Baristina is built around a simple idea Philips sums up as “Swipe. Brew. Enjoy.” You load fresh beans, and the machine grinds, tamps and brews automatically when you swipe the portafilter into place. There is no manual dosing or tamping to learn, which is usually the part that puts people off buying an espresso machine in the first place.
A ceramic bean grinder adjusts to different beans, and a 16-bar pressure pump pulls either a standard espresso or a longer lungo with a layer of crema on top. If you prefer milk-based drinks, a separate milk frother is sold on its own and whisks hot or cold milk for lattes and cappuccinos.
Backed by a local barista champion
To introduce the machine, Philips has worked with Jason Loo, a four-time Malaysia Barista Champion and co-founder of Yellow Brick Road and Contour, alongside actor and host Sean Lee as the campaign’s ambassador. Loo has created a Gula Melaka Ube Latte recipe using local ingredients and a dedicated Baristina Blend, so there is a homegrown drink to try from day one.
“What impressed me about Baristina is how it removes much of the complexity while still allowing me to enjoy the beans I love,” said Loo.
Made for small kitchens
The Baristina is designed to sit on a kitchen counter without taking over. It skips single-use plastic pods, and the used grounds pop out as a neat puck that can go into compost. It comes in Black and Milky White, and the portafilter handle can be switched between milky white, mango yellow, black and wood finishes to match your space.
Price and availability
The Philips Baristina is available exclusively at Harvey Norman, with online availability through TikTok. The milk frother and the interchangeable portafilter handles are sold separately. Philips has not stated a ringgit price in its announcement, so it is worth checking in store or on the official product page for the latest.
