PHLPost resumes its parcel service to US

THE Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) has fully resumed acceptance of letters and parcels bound for the United States starting April 13, 2026, following system upgrades to comply with new US Customs requirements.

PHLPost said the resumption restores normal operations after earlier partial services were implemented due to stricter documentation rules imposed by US authorities on incoming international shipments.

The agency said the updated requirements call for more detailed and accurate declarations for all parcels, including item description, declared value, and classification.

To comply with these rules, PHLPost implemented an upgraded Customs Declaration System, which allows postal personnel to capture complete shipment information before dispatch.

The system is designed to ensure that all required customs data are properly recorded and transmitted.

Under the system, applicable taxes and duties are automatically computed based on declared information and must be paid by the sender prior to mailing to help speed up clearance and reduce delays upon arrival in the United States.

PHLPost also partnered with global cross-border technology firm Zonos to improve the accuracy of shipping cost and duty computations, as well as enhance transparency in international transactions.

With the upgraded system, the agency said customers can expect clearer fees, faster processing, and improved tracking and delivery updates.

PHLPost reminded the public to provide complete and accurate shipment details, noting that incomplete or incorrect declarations may result in delays or additional charges from US Customs.

The agency added that gift items valued below $100 may remain exempt from duties and taxes, subject to applicable US Customs rules.
