Kota Kinabalu: Sabah DAP has expressed openness to political cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN17) but stressed that any collaboration must prioritise the interests of the people.

Its Chairman Phoong Jin Zhe said the party took note of the announcement made by Sabah Umno Chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and welcomed the spirit of political stability practised under the Federal Unity Government.

“This reflects the Madani approach under the leadership of the Prime Minister, which has brought political stability since the last general election,” he said in a statement Monday.

This follows Sabah BN Chairman, Bung Moktar’s announcement on Sunday evening that the coalition would partner with PH Sabah for the 17th State Election (PRN17).

Phoong said Sabah DAP remained open to working with any political party, so long as the collaboration is rooted in policies that benefit the people of Sabah and are not merely for electoral gain.

“Political cooperation must be based on shared policies that contribute to Sabah’s development. Sabah DAP is willing to engage in policy discussions before finalising any form of political alliance,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sabah PH Chairman Datuk Ewon Benedick said he would need time to respond to the matter as he is attending the State Assembly sitting on Monday.
