[PHOTOS] Supercharged situations at Selangor nomination centres

KUALA LUMPUR – The highly anticipated state elections for six legislative assemblies kicked off with simultaneous nominations today amid colourful and jubilant scenes.

The situation in Selangor was especially charged as the state is expected to see a closely fought battle with Perikatan Nasional leading the charge to dislodge the ruling Pakatan Harapan which has allied with Barisan Nasional.

The upbeat atmosphere was reflected in the excited countenances of supporters and the determined expressions of the contestants.

The Vibes photo team was present at a few nomination centres to capture in images the exuberance, hopes and jitters of those involved in the historic occasion.

The other states also having elections, in tandem with Selangor, are Penang, Kedah, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu.

The 14-day campaign period begins today, leading up to early voting on August 8 and the main polling day on August 12.

The nominations process resulted in 572 confirmed candidates vying for a total of 245 state seats – 56 in Selangor, 40 in Penang, 36 in Kedah, 36 in Negri Sembilan, 45 in Kelantan, and 32 in Terengganu. – The Vibes, July 29, 2023
