[PHOTOS] Tradition, prayer, hope warmly welcome Tamil New Year

KUALA LUMPUR – This year’s Tamil New Year was a scene of devotion and hopeful optimism as the community across Malaysia partook in religious offerings to usher in potential transformation, growth and enlightenment.

Also known as “Puthandu”, the day marks the first day of the Tamil calendar and is celebrated by people of Tamil descent around the globe in varying ways, depending on cultural and geographic influences.

Most commonly, those observing the occasion will make visits to elderly family members to pay their respects while also performing religious rites at their local temples to seeking blessings for the new year.
