PHRS lodges police reports over alleged defamatory Facebook posts

TAWAU: Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS) on Friday lodged two police reports against a Facebook user over alleged defamatory social media postings linking police arrests to the party’s leadership.

The reports were lodged at the Tawau District Police Headquarters by PHRS Women chief Norazian Dumit and PHRS Supreme Council member Jany Sahak after they claimed the postings were malicious, baseless and intended to tarnish the image of PHRS and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

Norazian said she came across the postings while browsing Facebook at about 8pm on Thursday and was shocked by the content uploaded by the account owner.

She alleged that the account had clearly displayed photographs of the party leadership alongside images of police arrests and detainees in court, which she described as irresponsible and unsupported by evidence.

Jany said the party would also lodge a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), claiming the content could touch on 3R issues involving race and the Sabah State Palace institution.
