Pia Cayetano faces ethics complaint over 'spliced' video

MANILA, Philippines — Civil society group Tindig Pilipinas on Wednesday filed an ethics complaint against Sen. Pia Cayetano over a "spliced and misleading" video she posted about the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

The complainants alleged the video was edited in a way that misrepresented House prosecutor Rep. Chel Diokno’s statements and could undermine the integrity of impeachment proceedings.

In their complaint, they requested the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, chaired by Sen. Vicente Sotto III, to conduct an inquiry into Cayetano's actions and determine the appropriate response under the Senate's rules and disciplinary authority.

"The integrity of the impeachment process is at stake here. No one- especially senator judges-should be permitted to distort or selectively president the official proceedings in a manner that misleads the public," the group said.

"Sen. Pia S. Cayetano's acts directly impinged on the dignity of the Senate's proceedings, and such conduct should neither be condoned nor left unexamined," it added.
