So, PICO just announced a big move – they’re teaming up with the Blender Foundation to take virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) 3D creation to the next level.
The collaboration is all about combining PICO’s XR hardware and software expertise with Blender’s powerful open-source tools so that users can have a choice of breaking away from the traditional mouse and keyboard setup and instead, experience innovative XR creation tools that streamlines workflows so artists and developers can work more efficiently, and pushing the adoption of OpenXR to ensure everything works seamlessly across platforms.
Jessie Zhang, who heads partnerships at PICO XR, said they’re all in on supporting Blender’s global open-source community and helping the 3D creation ecosystem grow. She pointed out that this partnership isn’t just about better tools – it’s about giving artists and developers the chance to bring their immersive visions to life and connect with audiences worldwide.
While there are certainly AI models capable of generating 3D assets via prompts alone, this partnership instead gives more power back to actual artists to make their lives easier and more “high-techy” to befit the 2025 digital era.
