Pilot arrested after 26kg of MDMA allegedly found in luggage

  • A Malaysian pilot was arrested in Jakarta for allegedly smuggling 26kg of MDMA, comprising over 70,000 pills, and 4g of methamphetamine.
  • The drugs were allegedly found in his luggage after he flew a plane from Kuala Lumpur, with officials saying he was under the influence of meth, MDMA, and cocaine during the flight.
  • Officials said the pilot, whose flight number suggested he worked for Malaysia Airlines, is believed to have smuggled the MDMA for a reward worth around 50,000 ringgit (£9,092).
  • He has been named a criminal suspect and faces severe penalties, including the death penalty or life imprisonment, under Indonesia's strict drug laws.
  • Malaysia Airlines said it does not tolerate misconduct and is conducting an internal review while cooperating with Indonesian authorities.
