KOTA KINABALU: Pintasan assemblyman Datuk Fairuz Renddan has condemned the alleged assault of madrasah students by an adult man believed to be an instructor, describing the act as unethical, inhumane and unjustified.

Commenting on a viral video showing the man striking several teenage boys with a helmet at a shop area, Fairuz said any disciplinary issues must be handled through proper and humane channels, not violence.

He welcomed police action, noting that the man in his 30s was arrested last night for investigation, and called for firm measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring.

Fairuz stressed that children should be guided with wisdom and moral education, not brutality, and urged authorities to closely monitor the management of religious schools such as madrasahs to protect students’ welfare and maintain parents’ trust.

He added that young people are Sabah’s future leaders and have the right to a safe learning environment free from abuse, warning that violence in educational settings harms society and undermines public confidence.
