
Kota Kinabalu: A Pitas schoolboy in critical condition for a week due to methanol poisoning after drinking a mixture of energy drink and the industrial spirit in early June passed away at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, here, Wednesday.
Sabah Health Department Deputy Director (Public Health) Dr Asits Sanna, who confirmed this, said the boy died due to multi-organ failure as a result of methanol poisoning.
He said the deceased was among 27 students in Pitas confirmed to have methanol poisoning based on laboratory tests including another schoolboy warded in the ICU of Queen Elizabeth Hospital II.
Dr Asits said the schoolboy now in the ICU ward still requires respiratory support.
