PKR 2025 party elections a crucial foundation ahead of GE16, says Rafizi

THE 2025 Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) party elections are a vital foundation in strengthening the party’s readiness for the 16th General Election (GE16), Deputy President Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli said on Sunday.

Speaking at the ‘Jelajah Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi Dalam Ujian Kuasa’ (HIRUK) event, Rafizi emphasised that the next line-up of party leaders must be committed to rebuilding public trust and tackling key issues such as economic hardship and corruption.

“The party’s duty is to win general elections, and that means we must meet the expectations of voters, ensure that what we say resonates with them, and strengthen the party. These positions carry a great responsibility,” Bernama cited the Economy Minister saying.

Also present at the event were Negeri Sembilan Chief Minister Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, both of whom are PKR Vice Presidents.

Aminuddin expressed hope that the remaining 10 days of the voting period would proceed smoothly, highlighting the importance of this year’s election cycle in shaping PKR’s path to GE16.

“What’s needed now are prayers, determination, and conviction. We need leaders who are prepared to fight for the party, and we will ensure Keadilan continues to succeed,” he said.

Nik Nazmi remarked that this election season feels particularly different, as PKR now leads the Federal Government and its President, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, serves as Prime Minister.

“That’s why we want this election to be smooth and transparent. It doesn’t matter who contests; what matters is that the process is conducted positively and fairly,” he said.

This year’s election sees a head-to-head contest for the post of Deputy President between Rafizi and Nurul Izzah Anwar, while Anwar retains his position as President uncontested.

For the Vice President posts, 12 candidates have submitted their nominations, including incumbents Aminuddin, Nik Nazmi, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang, and Selangor Chief Minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

The PKR National Congress, including the Youth and Women’s wings, is scheduled to take place in Johor Bahru from 22 to 24 May, with party voting set for 23 May. - May 12, 2025
