SARAWAK PKR has called on the state speaker to hold an emergency assembly session to debate the validity of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)’s “absorption” of three assemblymen and their seats from former opposition Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).
PKR said by-elections should be held for the three seats.
State PKR deputy chairman Abun Sui said the “absorption” of the three representatives into GPS via Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) was unprecedented, highly controversial and questionable.
Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar has remained silent on the issue.
"There must be an official declaration from the speaker as to the validity of how the three former opposition assemblymen of PSB had entered GPS which is the ruling state party,” Sui told The Vibes today.
"GPS accepting these former opposition assemblymen into the ruling government without returning to the voters for a by-election is not ethical.
'What is the stance of the speaker on this?" asked Sui, who is the Sarawak Pakatan Harapan information chief.
On April 6, it was announced that PDP, a GPS component party, had accepted an influx of members from the now defunct PSB.
