In Petaling Jaya, PKR leaders have dismissed former minister Khairy Jamaluddin's advice to woo right-wing Malays in order to stay in power. Instead, Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim emphasized that PKR should prioritize enhancing the economic stability of lower and middle-class Malays.

Hassan stated that the Malay community is more divided by economic disparities than by ideological differences. He believes that PKR, which takes a centrist approach, should focus on the support of economically vulnerable Malays instead of shifting towards right-wing ideology.

PKR also aims to cater to the well-being of non-Malay communities to gain broader support. According to Khairy, who is also a former Umno Youth chief, PH and its leading party PKR need to appeal to right-wing Malays, aligning with parties like Umno and PAS to secure

Khairy argued that relying solely on PKR's traditionally moderate, multiracial base would not be enough to maintain their hold on Putrajaya after the next general elections.

PKR's roots lie in its commitment to multiculturalism since its formation in April 1999. The party welcomes members of all races and embraces diversity in its leadership roles.

Kedah PKR Youth chief and Sungai Petani MP Dr. Taufiq Johari emphasized that while PKR should stay true to its multi-racial ideology, it needs to strengthen its support among Malays. He noted that relying on just one ethnic group is not enough to ensure PKR's position in the government or its dominance in Malaysian politics.

Taufiq suggested that PKR should excel in its role as a government party to gain more Malay support. He expressed that PKR will stick to its principles as a "reform" party representing various ethnicities.

"By upholding this principle, PKR will remain a relevant and enduring party in Malaysia," Taufiq concluded.

PKR's focus on economic well-being and inclusivity aligns with its long-term strategy to maintain relevance in Malaysia's political landscape. By committing to social reform and economic development, PKR hopes to bridge the gap between different ethnic and economic groups.

Hassan Karim highlighted the importance of addressing the issues faced by the lower and middle-class Malays, as these are the segments of the population that could benefit most from PKR's policies. This approach is not only intended to strengthen PKR's support base but also to improve the overall quality of life for Malaysians across the board.

Khairy Jamaluddin's stance on winning over right-wing Malays raised concerns within PKR about shifting away from its core values. However, the party's leadership seems determined to stick to its foundational principles and maintain a balance between representing a diverse range of communities and addressing the specific needs of Malays.

Dr. Taufiq Johari reiterated the significance of PKR's dedication to multi-racial ideology, emphasizing that the party's enduring presence in Malaysian politics will rely on its ability to represent and unite various ethnic groups. He believes that PKR's commitment to reform and progress will resonate with the majority of Malaysians.

PKR's ongoing efforts to strengthen its policies and initiatives in support of lower and middle-class Malays reflect its commitment to social justice and economic opportunity. By staying true to its roots and focusing on unity and inclusivity, PKR aims to solidify its position as a key player in Malaysia's political future.

In conclusion, while Khairy's suggestion of winning over right-wing Malays could present a potential route for PKR to secure its position in power, the party's current strategy emphasizes economic improvement and inclusivity. This approach seeks to address the needs of Malaysians from all walks of life, creating a more equitable and harmonious society. PKR's leadership remains confident that their steadfast commitment to these principles will enable them to maintain and even strengthen their political influence in the years to come.
