HASSAN Karim, the member of parliament for Pasir Gudang, announced that he will not seek re-election in the upcoming general election.
In a post on Facebook, the PKR leader shared his decision not to run in the 16th General Election, stating that he wants to make room for younger leaders.
He explained, "The reason for my decision is straightforward: I am getting older, and I want to provide opportunities for the next generation of leaders."
Hassan urged party leaders to work hard to keep PKR in control of the seat, which they first won in the 14th General Election in 2018.
Before that, PKR had lost the seat three times from 2004 to 2013.
In 2018, Hassan won against Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamad Khaled Nordin, and he successfully defended his seat in a four-way contest in 2022.
Recently, he also mentioned that he would not participate in the party elections next month. – March 9, 2025
