PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Women’s Chief Fadhlina Sidek has voiced her full support for Nurul Izzah Anwar as a candidate for the party’s Deputy President post in the upcoming 2025–2028 leadership term, dismissing claims that her endorsement is based on family connections.
Fadhlina, also Malaysia’s Education Minister, said her backing is grounded in Nurul Izzah’s proven credibility and decades-long commitment to the party’s reformist struggle.
“Nurul Izzah is a young leader who emerged during turbulent times when Keadilan was building grassroots strength,” she said in a statement on Wednesday. “She is a rejuvenating force essential for the party’s continuity and future," Sinar Harian cited her saying today.
Fadhlina highlighted Nurul Izzah’s involvement in key moments of the party’s history, including the Reformasi movement, the founding of PKR, and the formation of the unity government, as evidence of her leadership track record.
She also pointed to Nurul Izzah’s advocacy in humanitarian issues and women’s empowerment at the international level.
Support for Nurul Izzah has also come from the party’s youth wing, Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), which sees her candidacy as a strategic move to strengthen PKR’s next generation of leadership.
PKR’s national party elections are set for May 24, with the nomination and voting process for top leadership positions scheduled for May 8 and 9. - May 7, 2025
