TAWAU: Sabah PKR has yet to determine the number of seats it will contest in the 16th General Election (GE16), opting instead to await the conclusion of seat negotiations with government-bloc allies, including Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties.
Sabah PKR chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud (pic) said the party is taking a cautious approach, though all division leaderships—including Tawau and Kalabakan—have submitted proposals to contest.
Speaking to reporters after visiting fire victims at the Tawau Sports Complex temporary relief centre on Sunday, Mustapha confirmed that PKR will contest the Sepanggar parliamentary seat, which he pledged to defend to the last sweat.
Touching on Gabungan Rakyat Sabah's (GRS) open intention to contest at least 15 parliamentary seats, the Sabah PH chairman described it as normal for parties to express their wishes, noting that no government-bloc seats have been finalised pending joint discussions and machinery assessments.
In the 15th General Election (GE15) in 2022, Sabah PKR contested 10 parliamentary seats but secured only Sepanggar through Mustapha, losing the remaining nine, including Tawau.
