KUALA LUMPUR — Several major roads and highways in the Klang Valley will be closed in stages from May 23 to 28 in conjunction with the 46th Asean Summit 2025 in Kuala Lumpur.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said traffic diversions would be implemented across six expressways and 25 city roads, especially those leading to the Kuala Lumpur city centre, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Subang Airport, KLCC, and Istana Negara.

“Full deployment will begin from May 23 to 26, 2025 and will involve staggered road closures and diversions across six highways and 25 main roads in the Klang Valley,” he said at a press briefing held at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) today.

Among the affected highways are the ELITE Expressway, Maju Expressway (MEX), New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), KL–Seremban Expressway, North–South Expressway, and Guthrie Corridor Expressway. City roads impacted include Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Parlimen and several intersections near KLCC.

Traffic management will be enforced between 8am and 8pm throughout the summit, with closures timed to coincide with VVIP movements between venues and accommodations. Police will also initiate traffic control measures 30 minutes ahead of each motorcade.

A comprehensive dry run, involving motorcade rehearsals and venue security simulations, is scheduled for May 21 and 22 to ensure operational readiness.

Mohd Yusri said 789 personnel will be involved in traffic operations during the summit, including 55 senior officers and 734 lower-ranking officers. The police force will be supported by a fleet of 36 patrol cars, 313 high-powered motorcycles, and 190 standard motorcycles, along with tow trucks on standby.

“We also advise using public transport. Commercial vehicles are prohibited from entering the city centre during peak hours, from 6.30am to 7.30am and 4.30pm to 7.30pm,” he said, urging the public to cooperate by avoiding affected routes and opting for light rail transit (LRT), mass rapid transit (MRT), monorail, and bus services instead.

Vehicles parked indiscriminately will be towed, he warned, saying: “We hope for public cooperation to avoid blocking traffic with their parking. Otherwise, we will have to tow the vehicles.”

Close coordination with relevant agencies such as the Road Transport Department (JPJ), local councils, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), the Public Works Ministry (KKR), and highway concessionaires is ongoing to ensure seamless traffic control.
