Dramatic footage shows black smoke erupting from an Airbus A320 engine just before takeoff in Lima, Peru.
The crew aborted the departure as emergency teams raced to Jorge Cháves International Airport to extinguish the blaze. LATAM Airlines confirmed no one was injured in what they called an “unforeseen technical event”.
According to airport authorities the emergency was quickly controlled, with both runways remaining fully operational as affected passengers were rebooked onto a later flight, arriving four hours behind schedule.
The damaged aircraft remains grounded for a full technical inspection and an investigation is underway.
