Plans being worked out to fly 22 Brits aboard the hantavirus ship home with medical staff

  • Twenty-two British nationals aboard the MV Hondius amid the hantavirus outbreak are scheduled to return to the UK this Sunday.
  • The ship will dock in the Canary Islands, where passengers will undergo testing before disembarking. Passengers are expected to be transferred directly from the ship to a plane on the same day for their return journey.
  • That flight will be staffed by medical professionals and will carry equipment and medicines in case people fall ill.
  • Upon arrival in the UK, the individuals will be required to self-isolate for 45 days, with specific details still being finalised.
  • Any passengers exhibiting symptoms will receive hospital care in the Canary Islands, with arrangements for their repatriation made once appropriate.
