PLDT, Inc. on Sunday said that its wireless arm, Smart Communications Inc., had fired up a new cell site in San Vicente, Palawan.
The new tower is expected to bring reliable internet access closer to more Filipinos in last-mile communities and boost the government’s Bayanihan SIM initiative for geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
"By bringing fast and reliable mobile connectivity to towns like San Vicente in Palawan, we enable more Filipinos in underserved communities to access opportunities in education, livelihood and innovation,” PLDT Chief Operating Officer Menardo Jimenez said.
“This milestone also highlights the power of strengthened collaboration with our government partners so that together, we can deliver meaningful connectivity solutions that accelerate inclusive development.”
The Bayanihan SIM program, PLDT said, is being enabled by Smart's mobile network and supported by its extensive fiber infrastructure.
The telco’s shares on Friday closed at P1,099.00 each, down by P1 or 0.09 percent.
