Kota Kinabalu: The Federal Government will continue engaging stakeholders and state and federal agencies to improve the implementation of targeted fuel subsidies following feedback from the people of Sabah and Sarawak, particularly on the Budi Diesel initiative.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs), Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had taken time, despite his busy official schedule, to personally hear concerns from grassroots communities regarding the challenges faced in implementing the programme, especially in Sabah.
He said the Government acknowledged the feedback received and would continue discussions with relevant stakeholders to ensure the targeted subsidy mechanism for petrol and diesel is optimised without affecting the quality of life of the people, particularly those living in rural and interior areas.
“The Government listens to and takes seriously the feedback from the people of Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.
Mustapha said the Madani Government remained committed to ensuring that the voices of the people, whether from urban centres or remote villages, are heard and taken into consideration in shaping public policies.
He added that the Government would continue to uphold the principle of “Suara Rakyat Suara Keramat” (The People’s Voice is Sacred) in its efforts to improve the delivery of initiatives for the benefit of all Malaysians.
The Budi Diesel initiative is part of the Government’s targeted subsidy programme aimed at ensuring fuel subsidies reach eligible groups while improving the efficiency of public spending.
