PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the government will provide special Aidilfitri financial assistance to civil servants and retirees.
Civil servants in Grade 56 and below will receive a payment of RM500, with the distribution set to take place next week. Additionally, a payment of RM250 will be extended to all government retirees, including both pensionable and non-pensionable veterans.
In his announcement, which was made today, Anwar—who also holds the position of Finance Minister—explained that although he had previously considered civil servant bonuses to have been settled in February, the government had reviewed the situation due to the improved performance, service, and dedication of civil servants.
"Although I considered the matter of civil servant bonuses to have been settled in February, the government has seriously reviewed the matter, given the improved administration, better service, and dedication of our civil servants," he said.
"Thus, I have decided that Insya-Allah, we will distribute RM500 to each civil servant in Grade 56 and below next week, and RM250 to retirees, including both pensionable and non-pensionable veterans," Anwar added.
He made the announcement following his Friday prayers at Masjid Sultan Abdul Samad, Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
The special Aidilfitri payments will involve an allocation of nearly RM1 billion, benefiting approximately 1.6 million civil servants and retirees. Anwar pointed to Malaysia’s stronger economic growth, improved national revenue, and a more disciplined civil service as factors that made the payment possible.
"Alhamdulillah, with stronger economic growth, improved national revenue, and a more organised and disciplined civil service, we have been able to better control leakages, although some persist," he said.
The Prime Minister also noted that civil servants would need to understand the government's firm stance on preventing corruption and financial mismanagement within the public service.
"This is why it is important that when the government generates revenue, we return it to the people," he stressed.
In line with the announcement, Service Circular No. 1/2024 on the Implementation of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) reclassified Grades 55 and 56 under the Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM) as Grade SSPA 15.
With these payments, the government aims to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of civil servants while also reinforcing its commitment to improving governance and accountability within the public service – March 21, 2025
