Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim apologised for missing the Dewan Rakyat’s special sitting on the Tabung Haji RCI report and said he would closely follow the debate.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has apologised for being unable to attend today’s Special Sitting of the Dewan Rakyat to debate the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on Tabung Haji.

His senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, said in a statement that the Prime Minister, who is currently undergoing treatment, prayed for the proceedings to go smoothly.

“He will closely follow the debate to ensure that the trust placed in this institution of Muslims continues to be safeguarded,” he said.

Tunku Nashrul said the Prime Minister’s health was improving and that he would continue to undergo physiotherapy under the supervision of a team of medical specialists.

He said the Prime Minister also thanked everyone who had prayed for his health and wellbeing, as well as those who had sent him their greetings and good wishes on his 79th birthday yesterday.

The Prime Minister’s medical team head, Datuk Dr Asri Ranga Abdullah Ramaiah, said in a statement posted on Facebook yesterday that Anwar had successfully undergone an elective laparoscopic surgical procedure to treat a para-umbilical hernia.
