Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim congratulates Malaysian haj pilgrims, praying for their safety and acceptance as the first group departs for Mecca.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his congratulations to all Malaysian pilgrims selected to perform the haj this year.

In a Facebook post, he expressed gratitude that the pilgrims’ journey to the Holy Land had commenced.

“Haj is truly a great spiritual journey that demands sacrifice, sincerity, patience and devotion,” Anwar stated.

He also prayed for their affairs to be eased and for them to remain under Allah’s protection throughout their pilgrimage.

The Prime Minister wished for all pilgrims to be granted accepted haj, or *haji mabrur*, whose reward is paradise.

He hoped they would return home with blessings, deeper reflection, and a renewed commitment to faith.

A total of 31,600 Malaysian pilgrims will perform the haj this pilgrimage season.

The first flight, carrying 284 pilgrims, departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 4.05 am.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH8050 was the first of many that will transport pilgrims until May 20.
