PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will conduct a one-day working visit to Penang and Sungai Petani, Kedah, today, engaging in a series of official programmes spanning healthcare, culture, heritage, and community development.

The Prime Minister, who also serves as Finance Minister, will commence his itinerary with the official opening of the new Seberang Jaya Hospital building in Perai.

The facility is designed to enhance capacity and improve the quality of healthcare services for residents in Seberang Perai and the surrounding areas.

Following the hospital inauguration, Anwar will attend the official opening of the MADANI Cultural Carnival and Kenduri Rakyat Penang 2026 in Permatang Pauh.

He will also officiate the opening of Masjid Jamek Kubang Ulu in Kubang Semang, reinforcing his engagement with local communities.

In the afternoon, the Prime Minister is scheduled to preside over the opening of the Seberang Perai Aspire Centre and participate in the Santuni Komuniti programme at the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) Tower compound.

He will then inaugurate the Guar Kepah Archaeological Gallery in Penaga, a flagship initiative by the Penang state government aimed at bolstering the archaeological tourism map of northern Peninsular Malaysia.

The Guar Kepah Gallery will showcase national heritage treasures, including the Guar Kepah Skeletal Collection and the original storage boxes returned from the Netherlands on 30 August last year. Situated at the Bukit Cengkerang Kepah site, the gallery highlights evidence of a Neolithic prehistoric community in Penang, dating back approximately 5,000 to 6,000 years.

Anwar will conclude his visit by attending the Closing Ceremony of the “Gema Pendekar MADANI” Northern Zone 2026 Gathering, as well as the Pendekar Utama Negara Dato’ Dr Raja Abdul Majid Cup open silat championship at Dewan Kenangan, Sungai Petani Municipal Council, Kedah, at 8.30 pm.

The Prime Minister’s full-day itinerary reflects a focus on healthcare advancement, cultural promotion, heritage preservation, and community engagement in northern Malaysia. - January 24, 2026
