KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today welcomed Malaysia’s stronger than expected second quarter growth, saying the 6 per cent expansion underscored the government’s efforts to shield households from global inflationary pressures.

In a Facebook post, Anwar described the second quarter growth as the country’s strongest performance outside the pandemic period since 2014, despite global supply disruptions and conflict in West Asia.

“This strength was made possible by the Madani government’s efforts to ensure the people’s lives were not severely affected by global inflationary pressures,” he said.

He cited initiatives such as Budi Madani, Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), alongside behind the scenes measures to stabilise prices and maintain supply.

Anwar acknowledged that more work remained to sustain growth and ensure its benefits were widely shared. “We must guarantee meaningful incomes, quality job opportunities and assistance for vulnerable groups,” he said.

He added that the government would remain committed to reforms aimed at strengthening the economy and uplifting the people. “Insya Allah, the Madani government will stay on the reform path to raise the dignity of the people and reinforce the foundations of our beloved nation’s economy,” he said.
