Nga says 27th National Landscape Day in Melaka from Aug 6 to 9 themed ‘Landskap Lestari, Malaysia MADANI’
PUTRAJAYA: The National Landscape Day 2026 (HLN 2026) celebration will be held over four days from Aug 6 to 9 in Melaka, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim scheduled to officiate the opening ceremony on Aug 7.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the 27th edition is jointly organised by the National Landscape Department (JLN) and the Melaka Historic City Council. This year’s celebration carries the theme ‘Landskap Lestari, Malaysia MADANI’, highlighting sustainable landscapes as a foundation for environmental well-being through ecosystem conservation and balanced physical development.
“This theme reflects the Housing and Local Government Ministry’s (KPKT) commitment to strengthening landscape development as a national agenda that supports climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, mitigation of the urban heat island effect, and the creation of greener, safer and more liveable environments,” he said.
Nga said the approach positions landscapes as a strategic asset to boost nature-based tourism, strengthen the green economy and enhance the country’s competitiveness. The theme also reflects KPKT’s commitment to ensuring every landscape development initiative is sustainable, inclusive and high impact, while meeting present needs without compromising future generations.
The objective of HLN 2026 is to raise awareness of landscapes among the younger generation and promote their importance in enhancing quality of life. The celebration also provides a platform for industry players to market their products and improve landscape development quality, aiming to make Malaysia a sustainable nation with high quality landscapes by 2035.
Meanwhile, Nga said the government expects to allocate about RM500 million to develop 1,000 MADANI Public Parks by 2033.
“The first MADANI Public Park was successfully inaugurated by the Prime Minister in the Tambun parliamentary constituency, namely Bandar Baru Tambun. From what I have observed over the past two years, it has become an immensely popular community hub and attraction,” he said.
Throughout the four day celebration, activities and competitions will include the HLN 2026 Run, a cupcake decoration class, a terrarium workshop, an e sports competition, a children’s colouring contest, a cat competition, a recycled material sculpture building competition, a best industry booth competition and an industry dialogue. The JLN will also distribute fruit tree saplings from the Agriculture and Forestry Departments.
HLN 2026 marks the 27th National Landscape Day celebration since it was first held at Taman Alam in Kuala Selangor on March 3, 1998. The celebration originated from the nationwide Tree Planting Campaign launched on March 3, 1997.
