Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to deliver a keynote address and present the Madani Economy report during the closing ceremony of the Southern Zone Madani Rakyat (PMR) Programme 2024 on August 17. This significant event will take place at Dataran Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) from August 15 to 17.
According to Ahmad Jefry Aziz Adan, the Executive Director of the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit, the Prime Minister's address will be the highlight of the event. "The Prime Minister will deliver a concise speech on the achievements of the Madani Economy over the past year," he said. Ahmad Jefry made these remarks during his appearance on the Selamat Pagi Malaysia programme earlier on August 10.
In addition to the Prime Minister's speech, the event will feature a forum session. The forum will include participation from Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, and Minister of Economy Rafizi Ramli. This forum aims to shed light on various aspects of the government's economic strategies and foster a transparent dialogue between the government and the public.
Further elaborating on the event, Ahmad Jefry emphasized the importance of the forum in promoting transparency. He stressed that this approach is essential for the public to fully comprehend the government's agenda and the objectives of the Madani Economy.
Additionally, Datuk Yatimah Sarjiman, the Deputy Secretary-General (Sectoral) of the Ministry of Economy, mentioned that the ministry will have a booth at the event to provide direct advocacy on socio-economic programs to the public. "At the Ministry of Finance booth, visitors can register for the People's Income Initiative, which is designed to boost income, particularly for the B40 group," Yatimah explained.
The event will also include interactive sessions with key government figures. A notable feature is the 'Ask Minister Anything' town hall session, where the public will have the opportunity to engage directly with the Minister and Deputy Minister of Economy. This session is expected to be a platform for addressing public queries and concerns.
Mohd Khalid Mohamed Latiff, Executive Director of the Madani Monitoring Unit, provided insights into three core economic strategy frameworks that have been implemented since their launch by the Prime Minister in July 2023. These strategies are designed to steer Malaysia towards a more prosperous future. "The frameworks focus on three main areas: raising the ceiling, the floor, and governance. Raising the ceiling is about expanding the economy by ensuring that the country remains competitive and innovative, particularly by attracting foreign investment," Mohd Khalid explained.
He further elaborated on the government's priority to "raise the floor," which involves ensuring that the basic needs of the population are met. The third framework emphasizes the importance of robust governance, which provides a solid foundation for the government to drive the nation forward effectively.
The Southern Zone Madani Rakyat Programme, covering Johor, Negeri Sembilan, and Melaka, is organized by the Prime Minister's Office through the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit. This initiative is being carried out in strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and the Johor government, reflecting a concerted effort to implement the Madani Economy principles across the southern region of Malaysia.
