Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim calls for prudent Aidilfitri celebrations, advising reduced festive spending due to global economic challenges and supply chain pressures.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Malaysians to celebrate Aidilfitri in a moderate and prudent manner.

He cited current economic challenges and global uncertainties as key reasons for this call.

Anwar said the public should avoid wastefulness and prioritise essential needs during the festive season. He advised making practical reductions in traditional preparations.

“For women, if you usually make seven types of kuih, reduce it to four. If you prepare one gantang of ketupat, make it three-quarters of a gantang,” he said. The Prime Minister emphasised that savings were necessary given the volatile global situation.

He pointed to ongoing international conflicts that are disrupting oil and gas supplies. Anwar stated that Malaysia is managing to hold on currently due to good handling of the situation.

The Finance Minister said a thrifty approach was crucial for household financial stability. This is especially important amid rising goods prices caused by supply chain issues from international conflicts.

He was speaking at a Ramadan programme with Permatang Pauh community leaders. The event was held at the Permatang Pasir Community Hall.
