PM Anwar Ibrahim declares billions in seized illegal proceeds will be returned to the people, focusing on education and health sectors.
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the country’s revenue obtained through enforcement actions against illegal activities and abuse of power is returned to the people.
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said all funds seized from illegal proceeds through the legal process and judicial decisions will be returned for the benefit of the people, especially in the fields of education and health.
“And today I declare that all funds seized from illegal proceeds through the legal process and judicial decisions, all of which amount to billions of ringgit (and) will be returned (to the people) especially in the fields of education and health,” he said when speaking at the 2026 National Day Prime Minister’s Address here today.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, members of the cabinet and the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
The event, organised by the Ministry of National Unity, was held to enliven the 2026 National Day celebrations which will be held tomorrow at Dataran Putrajaya with the theme “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”.
The Prime Minister said that the effort was important to ensure that independence was not just freedom from colonialism, but also translated into a fair distribution of national revenues to the people.
“What is the meaning of independence if the country is governed by a colonialist face? What is the meaning of independence if the revenues are not returned to the people? What is the meaning of independence if there are children who are isolated and marginalised and do not experience the luxury (like) that their friends enjoy,” he said.
Anwar said that every citizen, regardless of race, including Malays, Ibans, Kadazans, Orang Asli, Chinese and Indians, is a Malaysian who needs to be given due attention and protection.
He also called on the people of this country to use the National Day celebration as an opportunity to strengthen consensus, unite energy and efforts and together guarantee the future of the country.
Anwar said Malaysia is capable of lifting its dignity to glorious heights with the strength and spirit of the people that have never faded.
“With the grace and favour of Allah SWT and the strength and spirit that have never faded, God willing, we will stand together, strong, brave and respected by the world,” he said.
