PM calls for unified action for farmers, stands behind humanitarian mission to Gaza

PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasised the need for greater coordination among agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to tackle ongoing challenges faced by farmers and fishermen.

Speaking at the 40th anniversary of the National Farmers’ Market in Putrajaya, he highlighted that resolving these issues requires collaboration across multiple bodies.

“The solution to farmers' problems, for example, does not only lie with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), but it could involve the Department of Agriculture, the LPP (Farmers’ Organisation Authority), and any other bodies or agencies that can coordinate,” he said, stressing that ensuring stable prices for agricultural produce would encourage higher production.

The Prime Minister also voiced strong support for the Global Sumud Flotilla’s humanitarian mission to Gaza, insisting the operation should continue despite security concerns.

“We still hope the mission continues, and Israel’s cruelty and violence must be stopped now,” he said, referring to the Malaysian team currently sailing near Greece as part of an international effort to deliver aid to Palestinians.

Separately, Anwar announced plans to fast-track key development projects in Sabah, including rebuilding the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Kampus Gaya, which was heavily damaged by a landslide.

“This was not in the original budget plan, but some adjustments must be made... if you ask the budget division, they will agree but using existing allocations... I will modify it slightly,” he explained, emphasising that government funds should prioritise public welfare.

“Whatever the nation’s resources, they are not for luxury but for the welfare of the people,” Anwar added. - September 26, 2025
