PM: Community leaders must help clarify government policies, achievements

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on community leaders to play a key role in explaining the policies and achievements of the MADANI Government to the public.

He urged them to counter the spread of negative perceptions, particularly those propagated by opposition groups, and focus on highlighting the government’s positive outcomes.

Speaking at a breaking-of-fast event with Selangor community leaders, Anwar said excessive time should not be spent responding to baseless accusations.

Instead, attention should be directed at the government's successes, such as the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) financial aid initiative, salary increases for civil servants, and other societal benefits that have positively impacted large segments of the population.

“If anyone claims we have done nothing, that is simply untrue. I can assure you that nearly everyone has benefited from STR, with RM13 billion allocated for this initiative in 2025,” said Anwar.

“Similarly, we are seeing growth in investments and an improving economy, along with much-needed salary adjustments for civil servants, after more than 12 years without significant changes.”

Also present at the event were Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, and other members of the state executive council.

Anwar further stated that the government remains open to feedback and is willing to address any shortcomings to improve its policies and initiatives.

In addition, the Prime Minister urged leaders and community figures to make use of their personal funds rather than relying solely on government resources for charitable contributions during Ramadan.

“True Ramadan values are reflected in our own contributions. Every Muslim, especially leaders, should aim to do good with the earnings they have earned through their work,” Bernama cited Anwar saying.

“This reminder also applies to me—do not use the Prime Minister's Department’s allocation for donations; instead, contribute from personal funds. That is the true spirit of Ramadan.”

Anwar also touched on the deeper significance of Ramadan, highlighting its role in fostering self-discipline and integrity.

He raised concerns about ongoing issues of corruption, misappropriation, and the accumulation of illicit wealth, questioning the sincerity of those who still hoard large sums of money.

“Where is our Ramadan? Where is the impact of worship on our lives and actions?” Anwar asked. “Ramadan teaches us about integrity, ethics, morals, and values that should be instilled in our daily lives.” – March 14, 2025
